Project Learning Tree

This course for partipants that would like credit for their participation in Project Learning Tree: Workshop for Secondary Teachers.

This course is for K-8 educators to gain a deeper understanding environmental concepts and issues, and educational strategies to use with children.  Educators attending this course will receive experience with grade level appropriate activities that will help their students understand the interdisciplinary interplay of science, social science, math and language arts knowledge in studying environmental and natural resources. They will benefit by learning effective and engaging ways to integrate environmental education activities into their existing curriculum and take away over 90 activities correlated to California Content Standards.

Course Objectives:
Project Learning Tree course objectives include the following:
1. Introducing participants to environmental education and local environmental issues.
2. Modeling teaching methods promoting critical thinking skills and a variety of learning modalities.
3. Introducing participants to the Project Learning Tree activity guide & features for effective use of the guide.
4. Engaging participants in a minimum of 6 standard aligned activities highlighting the above objectives.

Evaluation:  The basis for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be the full participation of the participant in course activities, completion of a course evaluation form upon completion of the course, and submittal of a short paper (or journal) describing their use of at least two PLT activities with school age children.
